The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat NYIT 11-2 and 9-6 in today's ECC games. Joy Ferriello went 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 5 RBI in game one. Sharis Ruiz also went 3-for-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI.
In game one, Ruiz led off the game with a solo home run in the 1st. Ferriello hit a 3 RBI double in the 3rd to give STAC a 4-0 lead. The Lady Spartans added two more run in the 5th including an RBI single by Alyssa Cataldo to score Ferriello. Ferriello added a 2 RBI triple in the 6th as the Lady Spartans scored 5 more runs to beat NYIT 11-2 in 5 innings. Pitcher Megan Sweezy picked up the win for STAC.
In game two, Heather Clausen went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Cataldo along with Devin Meikle each went 2-for-3 for STAC. The Bears opened the game ahead 3-0 after the 1st inning. Sweezy hit an RBI single to left field scoring Cataldo and bringing STAC within two, 3-1. NYIT added a run, however STAC used a 6-run, 3rd inning to regain control of the game. Meikle had a 2 RBI triple and Michelle Sasso added a 2 RBI double to highlight the inning.
NYIT score two runs in the 6th to get within one run of STAC, 7-6. The Lady Spartans finished the 7th inning strong, including a lead off home run from Kayla Cornish.
The Lady Spartans will return to action when they face Mercy on Thursday.
