STAC Men's Volleyball Rebounds with Dominant 3-0 Senior Night Win Over Baruch

Sparkill, N.Y. - Just a few days removed from a disappointing loss to crosstown rivals Dominican University, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team returned to the Spartan Athletic Complex hardwood on Thursday evening for a non-conference matchup against Baruch College. In a dominant performance to get back on track, the maroon and gold hammered the Bearcats to claim a 3-0 sweep on Senior Night.

Prior to the Spartans' home finale, the maroon and gold honored its graduating class, as Nicholas Santos and Marcus Franck's collegiate careers were celebrated with on-court ceremonies, which included the athlete's family, teammates, coaches and college administrators.

STAC moves to 10-12 on the season, while Baruch falls to 11-12.

How it Happened

  • As a team, St. Thomas Aquinas recorded 43 kills compared to Baruch's 17. The Spartans also had 4.5 blocks and 36 assists, while the Bearcats tallied 4 blocks and 17 assists.
  • STAC outhit Baurch by a .400 to .078 margin for the match.
  • Kyran Versteegen paced the Spartans offense with a match-high 13 kills. Versteegen also registered a dig and two block assists.
  • Marcus Franck tallied a match-high 26 serve assists (8.67 assists/set). He also accumulated two kills, seven service aces, six digs and a solo block for the maroon and gold.
  • Nicholas Santos racked up eight kills, two serve assists and six digs against the Bearcats.
  • Santiago Valenca picked up seven kills, a service ace, six digs and a block assist on Thursday.
  • Jakob Schwarz contributed five kills, two digs and a block assist.
  • David Weiss accumulated four kills, a dig and three block assists in the match.
  • Luis Grath put together a three kill, one serve assist, one service ace and one dig effort for the maroon and gold.
