Sparkill, N.Y. - For a second straight day, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team posted a 7-0 home shutout victory over an ECC opponent, this one against Daemen University, at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
STAC improves to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in ECC play, while Daemen slips to 3-11 and 0-2.
Doubles
STAC took the early momentum by winning all three doubles matches to claim the team point. The first result came at No. 3 doubles, where Lorenzo Meschini and Nathan Yacar blanked Riley Fitzgerald and Vondin Henderson 6-0. The Spartans followed with shutout win at No. 1 doubles, as Henry Ronnberg and Theo Renoux beat Alex Lumanog and Lasse Mergen 6-0. The final doubles match to finish came at No. 2, where Don Vinz Lominoque and Nagamitsu Kuroda took down Jordan Hamdan and Mitch Pollack 6-3.
Singles
Singles play saw the maroon and gold take all six bouts to win the match. No. 1 Lorenzo Meschini won his contest against Alex Lumanog on an injury retirement 4-3, followed by No. 4 Nagamitsu Kuroda besting Jordan Hamdan 6-1, 6-0 and No. 3 Erik Victor Tauson beating Mitch Pollack 6-3, 6-1. No. 2 Ondrej Sramek defeated Lasse Mergens 6-2, 6-1, followed by No. 5 Nathan Yacar blanking Vondin Henderson 6-0, 6-0 and finally Alberto Espinosa Navarro downing Joey LaBrake in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to close out the day's events.
