Flushing, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team advanced to its seventh straight East Coast Conference Championship Final with a 4-0 shutout victory over the University of the District of Columbia in the semifinal round on Friday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
No. 2 seeded STAC improves to 17-4 on the year, while UDC closes its 2025-26 campaign at 4-11.
DOUBLES
STAC opened semifinal action with a strong performance in doubles play, by taking two-of-three matchups. The duo of Erik Victor Tauson & Lorenzo Meschini won their match by default, when the Firebirds were unable to provide competitors at No. 3 and Ondrej Sramek & Nathan Yacar downed Filippo Vatteroni & Ambrose Evamy, 6-1 at No. 2.
SINGLES
Once the sides moved to singles action, there was no turning back for St. Thomas Aquinas, as the maroon and gold claimed the first three matches from the Firebirds to secure the win and advance to Saturday's championship. Alberto Espinosa Navarro started the victory spree in the No. 6 slot, taking his matchup by default when UDC was unable to provide a competitor. Erik Victor Tauson followed the trend, taking a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Ignacio Fernandez in the No. 5 slot to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 lead and put the Firebirds on the ropes, facing elimination. Ondrej Sramek delivered the final knockout blow in the No. 3 position, taking a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Ambrose Evamy to end the postseason contest.
