Altamonte Springs, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team suffered its second straight defeat, this one at the hands of Augustana University (S.D.) on Thursday at Sanlando Park.
STAC slips to 6-2 on the season, while Augustana (S.D.) moves to 3-6.
Doubles
The Spartans opened the day by capturing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. Lorenzo Meschini and Nathan Yacar set the tone at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 victory over Thomas Kano and Sebastian Garcia. Augustana answered with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, but the No. 1 pair of Theo Renoux and Henry Ronnberg secured the point for STAC with a commanding 6-1 win against Tadeusz Michalowski and Pedro Pinto.
Singles
In singles play, Augustana responded by winning four of the five completed matches to claim the team victory. The Vikings first picked up a point at No. 5 singles, where Pedro Pinto defeated Erik Victor Tauson 6-1, 6-0. Augustana added another point at No. 1 singles as Tadeusz Michalowski topped Lorenzo Meschini 6-2, 6-3.
The Vikings continued their momentum with a three-set win at No. 3 singles, where Thomas Kano defeated Henry Ronnberg 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (2) in a match tiebreak. St. Thomas Aquinas responded at No. 4 singles as Ondrej Sramek battled past Enzo Moretti 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (4) to earn the Spartans' second point of the match.
Augustana ultimately clinched the match at No. 6 singles when Maximilian Schmidt edged Nathan Yacar 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (6) in another tightly contested three-set match. The No. 2 singles match between Theo Renoux and Jose Velasco went unfinished after splitting the first two sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 when the overall match was decided.
