Philadelphia, Pa. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team made their way down the New Jersey Turnpike to the City of Brotherly Love for a Wednesday afternoon non-conference tussle with No. 49 ITA-ranked Jefferson University at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center.
After clinching two-of-three doubles matches for the first team point, the visiting Spartans went on to take five-of-six singles bouts to score a 6-1 victory over the Rams.
STAC improves to 12-5 overall, while Jefferson slips to 7-7.
In doubles action the Spartans struck first, as No. 1 Seth Newman & Henry Ronnberg defeated Mario Antonio & Filip Slavkovic, 6-2. Then, No. 2 Enrique Soto Ballester & Anthony Moukarzel doubled up Nagamitsu Kuroda & Don Vinz Lominoque, 6-3 to even things. Finally, No. 3 Erik Victor Tauson & Ondrej Sramek bested Jules Thibault & Antonio Mateos Melenchon, 6-4 to secure things for the maroon and gold.
When the teams turned to singles play, STAC moved quickly to put Jefferson on the ropes with a pair of victories. No. 2 Seth Newman downed Anthony Moukarzel in two sets 6-4, 6-3 followed by No. 1 Lorenzo Meschini downing Mario Antonio 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 to make it 3-0 for the visitors. The Rams ended the shutout with No. 3 Jules Thibault taking care of business against Don Vinz Lominoque 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The knockout blow came courtesy of No. 5 Ondrej Sramek against Enrique Soto Ballester in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 triumph. No. 6 Henry Ronnberg def. Filip Slavkovic 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 and No. 4 Erik Victor Tauson def. Antonio Mateos Melenchon 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-2 to wrap up the day's events with victories of their own, and complete the dominant performance over their hosts.
