14 Spartans Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors As Men's and Women's Tennis Programs Receive All-Academic Team Distinction

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced their annual Men's and Women's Tennis Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams for 2021. Both the St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's and Women's Tennis programs were named recipients of this distinguished honor as a result of their outstanding work on both the courts and in the classroom. Individually, student-athletes Alvaro Barranco, Matt Corsie, Enej Hasicevic, Lennart Lehmann, Kas Roosch, along with Karina Blas, Ayesha Burnett, Dauphine Donker, Katarina Lopez, Eliza Mulder, Maya O'Brien, Jemima Parkinson, Flaminia Valci and Samanta Villegas Robles were also honored for academic success.

In 2021, 523 Division II Men student-athletes and 711 Division II Women student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, with 80 men’s tennis programs and 104 women’s tennis programs awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

  • have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
  • be listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

  • have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
  • all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
  • all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
