Sparkill, N.Y. - St. Thomas Aquinas College Director of Athletics Margaret Alaimo recently announced the promotion of Brett Capps to Head Coach of the Men's Lacrosse program.
"Brett’s transition as our new head coach has been seamless," stated Alaimo. "He hit the ground running from day one and has embraced this new opportunity. Brett brings a student-centered approach and we are excited about the future of our lacrosse program with his leadership."
Capps is well respected within the lacrosse community, having coached many talented athletes in both traditional and box lacrosse over the last decade on the youth, high school and collegiate levels.
Capps takes over the reigns of the Spartans with a wealth of experience in collegiate lacrosse. Last season, he served as an Assistant Coach at STAC, and previously guided the Keystone College Men's Lacrosse team as Head Coach from 2021 to 2024, where his players set new program and single-season records in goals, assists, points and caused turnovers.
Before his time in both Sparkill and La Plume, Capps' collegiate coaching career began at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as an Assistant Coach for the institution's Club Lacrosse team (2016-2020). Simultanously, he also helped run the Varsity Lacrosse program within the Davie County School District in North Carolina.
Brett also currently assists in the development of both youth and high school lacrosse athletes as a Coach and Director for Reign Lacrosse Club out of New Windsor, New York, and recently took his talents to the international scene as an Assistant Coach for both the United States U18 and Scotland U21 Box Lacrosse squads.
As a student-athlete, Capps played for legendary Head Coach Rocky Delfino at Roberts Wesleyan College (Now University) as an attackman in 2012 and 2013, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in his final year as a Redhawk.
"Thank you to Margaret (Alaimo) and John (Alesi) for trusting me and handing over the reigns of the Men’s Lacrosse program to me first and foremost," said Capps. "I am very excited to be promoted to Head Coach and I'm ready to take this program to new heights. We have a lot of extremely talented lacrosse athletes on our roster, and now we need to come together as a team. To do that, we need to instill a new culture within our program, one that fits with our team and the college's mission. I feel that we not only have the players to do this, but we have the full support of the athletic department and college as a whole, and I couldn’t ask for more. I am very excited to get to work!"
