Monsey, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Ice Hockey team renewed its long-standing rivalry with MCHC foes Sacred Heart University on Saturday evening in front of a raucous crowd at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks.
Six second period goals sent the visiting Pioneers to a 10-5 victory over the Spartans to pull into sole possession of first place in the Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference for the first time this season.
STAC slips to 12-4-2 overall and 8-1-0 in MCHC action.
Jeremy Poggi struck twice for goals, while teammates Jesse Formica, Noah Barr and Andrew Fenninger tallied a goal apiece for the maroon and gold, In between the pipes Michael Pippo (L, 9-2) got the start for the Spartans and turned aside 21 of 29 shots faced in a little over 31 minutes of action, before being spelled by Theo Morris for the final 28 plus minutes of the contest. Morris stopped 21 of 23 shots fired his way.
