The St. Thomas Aquinas College Ice Hockey team secured a berth in the upcoming Metropolitan College Hockey Conference postseason tournament, as announced by the MCHC on Thursday.
#4 seed STAC (9-7) will face-off with top-seeded Sacred Heart University (15-0) in one of two the semifinal contests on Saturday, February 19 at Dix Hills Ice Rink on Long Island. Puck drop between the Spartans and the Pioneers is scheduled for 1:45pm.
In 2021-22 Regular Season action, Sacred Heart took both early season contests between the teams. In the first meeting on October 8, the Pioneers put up four second period goals and two third period tallies to skate to a 6-4 victory at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks in the teams' season openers. The rematch between the squads came a little over a week later (October 16), only this time at World Ice Arena in Flushing. Sacred Heart used two third period goals to beat STAC, 3-1, sweeping the season series.
In the other semifinal matchup, #2 Columbia University (11-4) will take on #3 Stevens Institute of Technology (9-5-2) at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, also at Dix Hills Ice Rink.
The winners of each semifinal game will have a quick turnaround, playing each other on Sunday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m (also at Dix Hills Ice Rink) for the right to be called 2022 MCHC Tournament Champions.
