Anderson Named All-Met Coach of the Year, Singleton Player of the Year

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball team continues to be well-represented with postseason honors, as the annual Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association awards were released on Friday. Head Coach Tobin Anderson, was named the All-Met Division II Coach of the Year, while Grant Singleton was named the All-Met Division II Player of the Year. Singleton, along with teammates Demetre Roberts and Osbel Caraballo were also named All-Met First Team selections.

For his efforts as the architect of the powerhouse STAC squad, Tobin Anderson was awarded his fourth All-Met Coach of the Year honors. In eight seasons, the bench boss has piloted his team to an impressive 181-57 overall record, 4-ECC Regular Season championships, 5-ECC Tournament titles, 6-NCAA Tournament appearances, an NCAA Division II East Region Championship in 2017 and an Elite Eight appearance, also in 2017.

Grant Singleton has been recognized for his stellar junior season – which included the Spartans' fifth ECC Tournament championship and sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, by being named as the Met's Division II Men's Player of the Year and an All-Met First Team honoree. The guard averaged a team leading 17.2 points per game (4th in ECC) and was an integral part of the team's 14-2 record. He adds to his trophy collection, which includes kudos as ECC First Team All-Conference, ECC Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament, NCAA East Region All-Tournament Team and NABC All-East District and All-American selections.

Joining Singleton on the First Team - for the second consecutive season - is Demetre Roberts, whose leadership and still at the point guard position, along with tremendous poise, have bolstered a Spartans lineup that has amassed a 64-14 record (.820 winning percentage) over his three seasons. His 14.4 ppg was third on the team and he also appeared and started in all 16 games during the 2021 campaign.

Rounding out the Spartans' post-season parade is Osbel Caraballo, who also took home First Team kudos for the third consecutive season. Caraballo's rebounding ability and interior presence have complimented the STAC attack this season, as his team-leading 7.4 rebounds per game placed him fourth in the ECC, while his 16.6 ppg placed him fifth among conference leaders.
