KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2020 NABC Coaches’ Division II All-District teams and coaches, recognizing the best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division II, 89 student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America.
In recognition of their outstanding 2021 season, St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Basketball Head Coach Tobin Anderson has been named the NABC Division II All-East District Coach of the Year, and student-athletes Osbel Caraballo, Demetre Roberts and Grant Singleton have earned selections to the NABC All-East District First Team.
For starters, Tobin Anderson took home the NABC All-East District Coach of the Year for guiding St. Thomas Aquinas to a 14-2 overall record (9-1 ECC), the team's fourth ECC Regular Season title, their fifth ECC Tournament crown in the last six years and the program's sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Anderson was awarded his third ECC Coach of the Year selection in his eight seasons at STAC, and is a nominee for the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division II Coach of the Year.
Fittingly, three Spartans represent the NABC's All-East District First Team, starting with junior forward Osbel Caraballo, who also took home his third consecutive ECC First Team All-Conference accolades. Caraballo finished the 2021 campaign second on the team and fifth in the conference with 16.2 points per game, while ranking fourth overall with 7.4 rebounds per contest. Osbel was also named to both the ECC and NCAA East Region All-Tournament teams.
Junior Grant Singleton earned his first ECC All-Conference award, picking up his First Team slot in emphatic fashion. Singleton's shooting touch and tremendous speed made him a dynamic player in this season's run, leading the squad and standing fourth overall at 17.2 ppg to close out the 2021 season. He also stands third overall with 35 three pointers and eighth with a 39.3 percentage. Grant took home ECC Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament honors and was selected to the NCAA East Region All-Tournament team. He is also a nominee for D2CCA All-America honors.
Another player who is no stranger to post-season honors, junior Demetre Roberts earned his second consecutive ECC All-Conference First Team kudos. Roberts added to this season's balanced attack with 14.4 ppg, eighth overall in 2021, while his 4.4 assists per contest made him the leader in that statistical category. Demetre was also named to the ECC All-Tournament team.
Caraballo, Singleton and Roberts are also all nominees for Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division II awards, which will be announced in mid-April.
