Spartans Victorious At The Post University Eagles Invitational

Watertown, Conn. - The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Golf team was victorious at the Post University Eagles Invitational this past week at the Watertown Golf Club in Connecticut. The Spartans came from 4 shots back during the final round to top the 12-team field. 

During the first round of play, the team was led by Tanner Little and Diego Ocasio who both managed to shoot 72 (+1). Senior Nolan Skaggs played a steady round carding a 3 over par 74. Djaia Darrason and Noah Barnatt rounded out the team scoring shooting 78 and 80 respectively. The team's score of 296 was good for first place by 2 shots over Dominican University and Adelphi University. 

During the second round of play the winds picked up and scoring was not an easy task. Djaia Darrason bounced back nicely, carding a 72. Diego Ocasio and Tanner Little posted rounds of 75 and 76 respectively while Skaggs and Barnatt struggled, shooting rounds of 80 and 85. The team's 2nd round score of 303 dropped them down to 2nd place, 4 shots behind Dominican University heading into the final round.

During the final round, the two teams went back and forth, and after the first 9 holes, the Spartans found themselves in a deadlock with Dominican. Djaia Darrason proceeded to play his incoming 9 at 5-under par, making birdies at 12, 13, 15, 16 and 17. Darrason's managed to shoot a final round 68 (-3) moving him up to a T-4 finish. Senior Tanner Little also contributed to the victory shooting 1-under on his inward 9. Little carded a 70 (-1) leaving him tied for 4th place with Darrason. Senior Nolan Skaggs battled the difficult elements all day and managed to fire a final round 76 earning him a top 20 finish. Diego Ocasio continued his exceptional play this fall and shot a final round 77 which left him in 10th place among the 70 Division II golfers. The Spartan's final-round score of 291 was 7 better than Dominican University and good enough for a 3-shot victory. 

The team will wrap up their fall season down at the Lenoir-Rhyne University Fall Invite, which will be held at the Lake Hickory Country Club Catawba Springs Course in Hickory, North Carolina.
