Lake Placid, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Golf team wrapped up play at the Columbia University Autumn Invitational. The event was played at Lake Placid Golf Club and included all Division I teams including Harvard, Cornell, and Colgate.
Senior Tanner Little led the team during the opening round of play, continuing his solid play this fall, carding a 4-under par 67. Sophomore Diego Ocasio played an excellent round of golf, shooting an even-par 71 and senior Nolan Skaggs shot a 72. Rounding out the team scoring was Djaia Darrason who shot a 2-over 73. The Spartans team score of 283 (-1) was good for 3rd place out of the 11 teams competing.
In the second round of play, the team Djaia Darrason played his best round of the season shooting a 3-under 68. Tanner Little and Diego Ocasio both battled for rounds of 70 (-1), while newcomer Albin Faelt bounced back from a tough first round, shooting 73. Nolan Skaggs finished his 2nd round at 74. The team shot under par for a second consecutive round, posting a score of 281 (-3) leaving them in 3rd place with 1 round to play.
In the final round of play, the team battled tougher conditions and still put together an excellent round of golf. Diego Ocasio led the charge with a superb round of 69 (-2) while Tanner Little fired another under-par round shooting 70 (-1). Nolan Skaggs fought all day and managed to card an even oar 71, while Djaia Darrason battled to shoot 74. The team put together a round of 285 (+1), leaving them in 3rd place for the event behind Columbia and Dartmouth. Tanner Little had an excellent showing, finishing in 3rd place among the 67 players in the field with his 54-hole score of -6 (67-70-70). Diego Ocasio also earned a top-10 finish in 6th place with a final score of -3 (71-10-69).
The Spartans are back in action on October 10 at the Adelphi University Panther Invitational at the beautiful Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y.
