Spartan Golf Team Prepares For NCAA Super Regional

The 2017 - 2018 Men's golf team had a strong season that has earned them a 15th straight selection to the East/Atlantic Super Regional.  The tournament will be played at The Resort at Glade Springs, Cobb Course from May 7th-May 9th in Daniels, WV.  The Spartans are the #3seed in the East Region and will compete in the East/Atlantic Regional.

Some info about the 2018 Spartans:

  • The team finishes the year with a 300 team scoring average which ranks 5th in school history.

  • During the fall, they played in 10 tournament rounds and were able to record 7 team scores under 300. They had their best round at the Penman Invitational where they shot a team score of 275 which ranks 4th in school history.

  • In 9 tournaments over the fall and spring, the team placed in the top 5 in 8 of those events and had 3 runner up finishes

  • They finish the regular season ranked 3rd in the East region.


Senior Michael Miranda finishes his career having played 100 collegiate rounds and maintained a 74.17 scoring average while doing so. Over his career he posted 28 rounds of par or better and shot in the 60's on 11 occasions. He earned 4 first place finishes and holds almost EVERY record in STAC golf history including:

  • Lowest individual scoring average of 72

  • Rounds of par or better in a season with 15

  • Number of birdies in a season with 107

  • Number of eagles in a season with 6

  • Lowest Par 3 and par 5 scoring average in a season

  • Low round with an 11 under par 60

  • On top of this, Miranda has also earned Academic All American honors for the past 2 years for his work in the classroom.

 

During the 2017-2018 season he maintained a 73 scoring average through 18 rounds and finished runner up in 3 of our 9 events.


Fellow senior Hamish Houston, has become one of the best players on our team, lowering his scoring average over 3 full strokes to 73.69 ranking him 6th in school history. Houston also earned his first collegiate victory this fall at the Post Invitational.
