Spartan Golf Team Completes Day One in NCAA DII Preview

The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team is participating in the NCAA DII Preview on October 3rd and 4th. The Preview is hosted by St. Leo University at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla. The tournament will be 36 holes Monday followed by 18 on Tuesday.

Teams that competed in last year's NCAA Championships were invited to the Preview, which is played at the site of this year's National Championships, May 22-26. Among the other teams competing are Florida Southern, West Florida, along with Barry, Lynn, and Nova Southeastern to put all of the top-five teams in the country at one site.

After 36 holes on day one the Spartans finished in 17th place, led by Michael Miranda, who was three over for the day (78, 69).  Lynn holds a slight edge in the team standings at 560 (-16), one stroke better than Florida Southern, who sits at 561 (-15).  Individually, John Coultas and John VanDerLaan of Florida Southern lead the way as Coultas is first overall at 134 (-10), holding a two-stroke lead over teammate VanDerLaan (136).

STAC will play 18 holes on Tuesday to complete the tournament.  The final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
