Senior Tommy Linehan led the St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team to its second victory of the season with a wire to wire victory at the Turning Stone Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University. The event was played on the difficult Kaluhyat golf courses and consisted of 54 holes of stroke play.
On day one the Spartans shot their low round of the season with a first round team score of 286 (2-under par). Leading the team was senior Tommy Linehan who carded a 68 (-4); his low round of the season. Right behind him was Kai Rastetter who played a steady round of golf posting a 70 (-2). Niklas Koerner and Kevin Gately rounded out the team scoring posting rounds of 74 while Anthony Berardo posted a 75.
The second round of golf was played immediately following the completion of round one. Under rainy conditions the Spartans played another solid round of golf posting a team score of 303. Freshman Kevin Gately was the low Spartan with a round of 73 while Linehan maintained his lead after a 74. Koerner and Berardo rounded out the team's score with rounds of 76 and 80 respectively, while Rastetter struggled in his second round shooting an 86.
With a nice size lead going into round three, the Spartans continued their stellar play and posted the day's low round with a team score of 296. Linehan was able to close out the event with another round of 74 good for his first tournament victory of the year. Linehan's 3-day score of 216 (68-74-74) was good for a 2 shot victory over Freshman Kevin Gately who shot his lowest round of the year with a 1-under par 71. Gately played consistent all weekend and finished with with a total of 218 (74-73-71) leaving him in 2nd place. Junior Niklas Koerner posted another round of 76 leaving him at 226 (74-76-76) for the event and in a tie for 5th place. Kai Rastetter bounced back nicely after his worst collegiate round to fire a round of 75, finishing the tournament at 231 (70-86-75) and in a tie for 12th place. Sophomore Anthony Berardo finished with a closing round 84 and a 3 round total of 239 (75-80-84) leaving him just outside the top 20.
The Spartans 3-round score of 885 (286-303-296) was good for a first place finish by 23 shots of the runner-up Robert Wesleyan.
