Spartan Golf Finish 15th in NCAA Championship

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's golf team finished the 2014 season tied for 15th place in the NCAA Division II men's golf championship.  Senior Thomas Linehan and teammate Niklas Koerner paced the Spartans finishing tied for 30th place overall.  After five trips to the NCAA Championship, 15th place is the best finish in the program history. 

Linehan and Koerner completed their three days of golf at 224, with Koerner shooting the team low round of 71 on day two.  Kevin Gately and Kai Rastetter finished at 234 and 235 respectively, after three rounds.

The Spartans were tied for 13th place after the opening round and dropped one spot the second day.  Nova Southeastern, Barry and Chico State have been consistant in the top three spots over the first three rounds.  After 54 holes the field is cut to the top eight team that will go on to match play, this ending the season for the Spartans.

The 2014 season has been another one for the record books for the Spartans who have compiled 4 tournament team wins this year as well as 5 individual medalist.  The Spartans finished 2nd in the Super Regional after a record round on day two posting 11 birdies as a team.  Senior Co-Captain, Thomas Linehan has helped guide the Spartans to 3 NCAA Championships in his four years here.  

The Spartans will return a core group of experienced players for next season.
