Spartans’ Season Ends with ECC Baseball Tournament Loss to D’Youville

Uniondale, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Baseball team wrapped up their 2026 campaign on Friday morning, suffering a 17-7 defeat at the hands of D'Youville University in an elimination round matchup at the East Coast Conference Tournament, held at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex on Long Island.

STAC closes its season with a 25-22 overall record and a 15-15 ECC mark. Meanwhile, D'Youville moved on in the tournament, only to fall to Mercy University later in the day, ending its year at 19-32 and 13-17.

17-7 D'Youville

In a game filled with offense from the opening inning, D'Youville University erupted for 19 hits and capitalized on key mistakes to defeat St. Thomas Aquinas College, 17–7.

D'Youville Jumps Ahead Early

D'Youville wasted no time putting pressure on the Spartans, scoring three runs in the opening inning.

After a throwing error opened the door, Blaise Kolbert lined an RBI double to right center before Jake Hollins followed with an RBI single to center, giving the Saints a quick 3–0 advantage.

St. Thomas Aquinas answered immediately in the bottom half when Joshua Mccormick lifted a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Ryan Hillery to make it 3–1.

Spartans Battle Back

The Spartans chipped away at the deficit over the next two innings.

Alex Celeiro launched a solo homer to left-center in the second before Michael Zeis tied the game in the third with another solo blast to left-center, evening the score at 3–3.

Saints Retake Control

D'Youville regained momentum in the fourth inning.

Billy Morris drove in a run with a sacrifice fly before Colby Wilson delivered a two-run single to right, pushing the Saints back in front, 6–3.

The offense exploded again in the sixth. Wilson added another RBI single, Hollins drove in a run with a base hit through the right side, and aggressive baserunning helped D'Youville extend the lead further. Jake Ferris later capped the inning with an RBI single as the Saints stretched the advantage to 10–3.

St. Thomas Aquinas responded in the bottom half when Nick Oelcher crushed a two-run homer to left-center, trimming the deficit to 10–5.

D'Youville Pulls Away Late

The Saints continued to apply pressure over the final three innings.

Anthony Consiglio scored on a wild pitch in the seventh before D'Youville erupted for five more runs in the eighth. Michael Huff delivered a sacrifice fly, Consiglio launched a two-run homer to left-center, and Colby Wilson ripped an RBI double down the right-field line as the lead ballooned to 16–5.

Another bases-loaded walk in the ninth added to the cushion before the Spartans recorded the final runs of the afternoon on a two-run homer by C.J. Cumbo.

Offensive Fireworks

D'Youville finished with 19 hits and drew 12 walks in a relentless offensive performance.

Colby Wilson led the way with three hits and five RBI, while Anthony Consiglio added three hits, including a home run, and drove in two. Blaise Kolbert collected three hits, scored three times, and added a double and triple, while Jake Hollins contributed two hits and two RBI.

St. Thomas Aquinas totaled 12 hits, highlighted by four different home runs. Anthony Dimarco paced the Spartans with four hits, while Nick Oelcher recorded three hits, including a two-run homer and two doubles.
