James Patterson, Jeremy Poggi, Tylor Brino-Dean and Chanelle Russell were named the Spartan Athletes of the Month for November.
Chanelle Russell, Women's Triathlon:
Chanelle Russell qualified for the 2023 NCAA/USA Triathlon Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships by way of her strong efforts at the East Regional and went on to place 60th in the National Championship race in Tempe, Arizona on November 11.
In heat one of the regional, Russell had one of her best swims of the season and fought extremely hard the rest of the race to cross the finish line in the first of what will be many regional events to come. "Sunshine" as she is affectionately called by her coaches and teammates was rewarded for her efforts all season with a trip to the USAT National Championships.
At the national championship, the Kingston, Jamaica native had a respectible swim and then showed her skills on the bike, making up a number of spots in the field. The hot desert sun made it difficult for all of the athletes competing, but Russell hung tough and became only one of three STAC Triathletes in program history to finish the entire event.
