St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Lacrosse player Ryan Mello was named the East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and a first team All-Conference selection, while Briele Caples was named an All-Conference second team pick.
Mello, posted a 5-10 record with a 10.05 goals-against average and a .557 save percentage in 15 starts for the Spartans. Ryan faced 336 total shots on goal for the season and finished his junior campaign ranked in the Top-5 in the ECC in the following categories: Total Saves (2nd/187), Save Percentage (3rd/.557) & Goals-Against Average (5th/10.05).
As a result of his outstanding play in the cage, Mello, the Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. native, was named the ECC Defensive player of the Week for April 23rd.
Meanwhile on the offensive side of the field, Caples posted 31 goals (2nd on Team), and team-high 48 points for the Spartans this season, while picking up 18 ground balls and causing 2 turnovers in 15 matches for STAC.
The senior attack from Rochester, N.Y. finishes his career at St. Thomas Aquinas with 75 goals and 116 total points. He also scored a game and career-high 6 goals on March 17th versus Georgian Court University.
