STAC Ice Hockey Ranked No. 43 In Latest ACHA M3 National Poll

Riding a four-game win streak into the upcoming Metropolitan Collegiate Ice Hockey playoffs, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Ice Hockey team is currently ranked No. 43 in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 3 National Poll, released on Friday afternoon. STAC holds an 16-4-2 overall record and an 11-1 MCHC mark, which allowed the Spartans to secure the second seed in the conference's postseason tournament.

The maroon and gold are led by senior Jeremy Poggi with 17 goals and 30 assists (47 points), junior Andrew Fenninger 23 goals and 23 assists (46 points), junior Christopher Smith with 17 goals and 18 assists (35 points) and junior Nicholas Delia with 14 goals and 18 assists (32 points) through regular season play. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the puck, senior goaltender Michael Pippo has an 11-2 record with a 3.05 goals against average and a .911 save percentage, appearing in 14 contests played to date. Teammate and junior Theo Morris has the Spartans five other victories (5-2-2), while posting a 2.80 goals against average and an .892 save percentage over 10 games.

The team's offense scores 6.41 goals per game, while their defense & goaltending lets up an average of 2.95 goals per game.

No. 2 seed St. Thomas Aquinas College (16-4-2, 11-1 MCHC) faces No. 3 seed SUNY Maritime College (7-7-0, 7-5 MCHC) in the semifinal round of the MCHC postseason tournament, which takes place on Friday, February 20 (8:40 p.m.) at Sport-O-Rama Ice Rinks in Monsey, New York.
