The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team was ranked 20th in the Division II Bulletin Pre Season Poll. STAC finished the 2010-2011 regular season with a record of 21-7 and 17-4 in the ECC. The Lady Spartans return ECC Co-Player of the Year, Briana Sloper. Sloper was also named to the Pre Season Super 16 All American Team.
Sloper led the Lady Spartans in scoring (17.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg) last season and was a 1st team all conference selection for the second year in a row. The 5'11" senior was named to the Daktronics All Region Team as well as the All Met Team.
The Lady Spartans return four out of five starters including the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, Bianca Kowgios. Kowgios finished the season averaging just under 10 ppg and with 147 assists. Shpresa Liharevic is coming off a solid sophomore campaign averaging 11.8 ppg as the Lady Spartans top outside threat.
The Lady Spartans are coming off one of the best seasons in school history, finishing as the ECC Regular Season Champions. St. Thomas Aquinas is joined by three East Region teams on the preseason poll including Bentley (No. 2), Franklin Pierce (No. 14), and Holy Family (No. 17).
The Lady Spartans will open their season on November 12th at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. STAC will play Nationally ranked Holy Family on December 19th.
