The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Philadelphia University, 5-0 and 7-3 on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, Kelcy McGeehan went 1-for-2 with 3 RBI including a 2 RBI double in the 2nd inning. The Spartans got off to a strong start begind and RBI sac bunt from McGeehan to score Briana Keaveney. Danielle DiModugno added a solo home run to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Ashley Landolina added a RBI double in the 3rd scoring Missy Sadler.
Julie Sosnicki earned the shutout win on the mound giving up just three hits in 7 innings with two stirke outs.
In game two, Valerie Winalski went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. The Rams took an early 3-0 lead but the Spartans scored two runs in the bottom of the 2nd highlighted by an RBI single from Winalski.
Trailing 3-2 the Spartans rallied in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring five runs to earn the win. Alyssa Chelak had an RBI off a bunt and Keaveney added an RBI single. With bases loaded the Spartans had three RBI walks to add some insurance runs and secure the win.
Colleen Borum had four strikeouts in the win. The Spartans will be on the road Monday at LIU Post and Tuesday at Mercy.
