The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Pace University 6-5 and 3-1 on Friday afternoon.
Amanda Schweitzer's RBI single in the top of the 6th inning gave the Spartans 6-4 lead. Schweitzer was 2-for-4 for the game with 2 RBI.
The Spartans were first on the scoreboard as Briana Keaveney scored off an error from the Setters. Pace climbed right back into the game taking a two run lead after scoring three runs off of five hits.
The Spartans regained the lead in the top of the 4th after scoring four runs off two hits; highlighted by a 2-RBI double from Missy Sadler. Schweitzer also batting in a run off a single to left field.
Schweitzer's RBI in the top of the 6th proved to be what the Spartans needed to secure the victory as Tara Bernstein's RBI single scored the final run for the Setters, allowing STAC to hold on for a 6-5 win. Julie Sosnicki earned the win on the mound for the Spartans.
In the second game of the day, the Spartans were back on the scoreboard early off another RBI from Schweitzer who scored Sadler to give STAC a 1-0 lead. The Setters responded quickly with an RBI double from Hernandez to tie things up at 1-1.
A solo home run from Ashley Landolina gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead in the top of the 4th. The Spartans added another run in the top of the 7th as Sadler's RBI single scored Valerie Winalski. Sadler finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Schweitzer went 3-3 and added an RBI.
