Lady Spartans Take Two From Purple Knights on Pink Day

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat the University of Bridgeport, 10-2 and 7-3 this afternoon. Samantha McDonald went 3-for-3 including a 2-run homerun in game one. McDonald went 5-for-6 for the day. Katie Meyers went 2-for-3 including 2 run homerun of her own in game two.

In game one, STAC used a 3-run 1st inning to take a 3-2 lead over Bridgeport. McDonald led the inning off with a single and eventually went on to score a run. Jamie McCormick, Megan Sweezy and Maura Power each had a RBI in the inning. McDonald led off the 2nd inning with a triple and scored on another McCormick RBI single and the Lady Spartans held on to their 4-2 lead until the 4th inning.

STAC exploded for 5 more runs in the 4th, topped off by a 2-run homer from McDonald. Alisa Cipolla hit an RBI double in the 5th to give STAC a 10-2 lead and the win. Power picked up the win for the Lady Spartans.

STAC started off game two in similar fashion with a McDonald hit and a RBI single from McCormick.  Bridgeport tied it up in the 3rd and went on to take a 1-run lead in the top of the 5th but the Lady Spartans would not go away quietly. Another strong 5th inning was more then the Purple Knights could handle as STAC put together 6 more runs, highlighted by a 2 run homer from Meyers.

Megan Sweezy picked up the win on the mound and struck out 5 batters.  STAC will play their final games on Saturday against NYIT, which will also be their senior day games for Devin Meikle, Maura Power and Megan Sweezy.
