The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Nyack, 5-4 in the first game coming from behind to edge the visitors, off a game winning RBI double from Rachel Hannawalt. STAC went on to win the second game, 5-1, highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Katie Meyers.
In game one, STAC fell behind 1-0, off an RBI double from Megan Richards. The Warriors added a 3 run inning in the top of the 3rd to take a 4-0 lead over STAC. The Lady Spartans would not go away quietly as they put together a 3-run inning of their own behind a single from Toni Ann Groth to score two runners and bring STAC within one.
STAC added a run in the 5th to tie the game at 4 all, setting up the stage for Hannawalt's hit. With two outs, Sharis Ruiz singled and scored the game winning run off Hannawalt's double.
In game two, Maura Power went 7 innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 4 to earn the win. Ruiz and Power each went 2-for-3 with Ruiz adding 2 runs for STAC. The Lady Spartans got off to a strong start using a 3-run 1st inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Colleen Pagnani.
STAC will travel to Molloy College on Friday for a double header beginning at 3:00pm.
