The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team won 5-4 before falling 14-5 against C.W. Post. Senior Angela Squillini hit a 2-RBI double in the seventh to win the game for STAC. Freshman Maura Power picked up the win on the mound.
STAC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth as Squillini hit a 2-run homerun. The Pioneers responded with a strong fifth inning highlighted by a 3-run homerun by Christy Softy to put C.W. Post up 4-2. In the seventh, Sharis Ruiz hit an RBI single to score Michelle Sasso and bring STAC within one, 4-3. Samantha Welsh reached on a fielder's choice and Heather Clausen walked, setting the stage for Squillini's game winning hit.
In the second game of the day, STAC opened another 2-0 lead as Caitlin Sherrier hit an RBI single to score Alyssa Cataldo. Kayla Cornish added a sac-fly RBI to score Amande Forsythe. The Pioneers exploded for a 14-run third inning highlighted by another Softy homerun along with a 3-run homer from Shannon Kulnis. STAC added three runs in the fifth as Squillini added another 2-RBI single.
STAC will be back in action on Sunday as they host Bridgeport at 1:00 PM.
