Lady Spartans Honor Three Seniors in Final Game

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team finished their season yesterday dropping two games to Dominican College, 4-0 and 9-2.  The Lady Spartans honored their three seniors; Danielle Hart, Stephanie Sfraga and Kelly Sullivan after the game.  In game one, Sfraga pitched her final game at STAC striking out three batters and holding Dominican scoreless for the final three innings.

In the final inning of the game Joy Ferriello hit a single with two outs.  Junior Angela Squillini hit a long ball that would have cleared the fence if not for the great catch by Dominican's left fielder, robbing the Lady Spartans of a two run homerun and ending the game.

In the second game of the day the Lady Spartans scored both of their runs in the third inning.  The first run came off a Heather Clausen RBI single to score Sharis Ruiz who reached on an error.  In the next at bat Alyssa Cataldo hit a single but reached second on an error by the left fielder which also allowed Clausen to score.  In the final inning of the game all three seniors had an at bat starting with Danielle Hart who popped out to right field.  Hart went 1-for-3 with a single in the second inning.  Kelly Sullivan hit a double for her final at bat and Stephanie Sfraga who normally pitches struck out swinging for an emotional end to the game.

The Lady Spartans finished their season with a final record of 5-36.  The young team that consisted of five freshman and six sophomores will return thirteen players next season.
